Yukata is Summer version of Kimono, it is casual and most of them are made of cotton. Yukata are a common sight in Japan at fireworks displays, bon- odori festivals, and other summer events. The yukata is also frequently worn after bathing at traditional Japanese hotels. Unlike formal Kimono, which are made of silk, yukata are typically made of cotton.

It was a great benefit concert

June 4, 2011

I went to a benefit Concert for Japan and Southern U.S. “A Prayer from New York” tonight.

It was a great concert performed by The Boys And Girls Choir Of Harlem Alumni Ensemble and a Japanese pianist Riakako Asanuma.

I was impressed, the choir sang 2 Japanese songs “Sakura Sakura” and “Furusato-no” in Japanese! Their pronunciation was really good!!!  I know it is not easy to sing Japanese song for non-Japanese speakers.  I am pretty sure they worked on it very hard.  Their voice was beautiful and I was so happy to enjoy their performance.

Thanks to NY Japanese-American Lions Club for organizing this great benefit concert!

Asian American Festival in Port Washington

May 22, 2011

Saturday, May 21st 2011, I went to “Asian American Festival” at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington.  There were many vendors and traditional stage performances from different countries such as Japan, Korea, China, India and Pakistan.

From Japan, Taiko Drums & Japanese Dance, Koto & Shakuhachi performance at the stage and also there was live giant calligraphy performance.  Sushi vendors and Japanese art fan, Kimono dressing booth and Japanese craft booth and Japanese tea ceremony demonstration.  People enjoyed experience many different culture at one festival.

I joined this festival as a volunteer at Kimono dressing booth this year.  It was very interesting experience for me.  The park is very beautiful located right by the beach, I enjoyed to get away from NYC for a bit.
